Culver-Stockton Cheer Competes for the First Time Since 2016

Saturday, February 1, 2025 – The Culver-Stockton College Wildcat Cheer team traveled to compete in the Spartan Showcase. Head Coach Kaitlin Tait expressed her enthusiasm for the team’s return to competition, saying, “It is very exciting to get to reignite the competition side of cheer, especially after such a substantial time without it.”

Coach Tait spoke about the team’s mentality heading into their first competition: “The team’s mentality this meet was to do the best we could compared to some of the larger, more skilled teams we would face.” She added that the team had set specific goals before the meet and for the rest of the season.

In addition to the dedicated cheer squad, two football players—Wyatt Randle of Kahoka, MO, and Rommarrus Hinson of Orlando, FL—joined the team to provide extra strength and support. Their presence added stability to lifts and pyramids, giving the squad an extra boost in their performance.

The team finished seventh out of nine teams, earning a total score of 197.4 from the three-judge panel. With an average score of 85.80, they received a 0.75-point deduction, bringing their final score to 65.05. Reflecting on the performance, Tait said, “Our performance went better than expected. The group of students we have this year are all new to competition cheer, so they were a little anxious about their debut performance. We have a few things to improve on, but the team is very excited to start upgrading our routine.”

Next Competition

The Wildcat Cheer team will compete again on Thursday, February 20, at Columbia College, with the competition set to begin at 9:00 A.M. Looking ahead, Tait noted the adjustments her team is making: “After this first competition, we know what the judges would like us to improve on.” She continued, “We are working on amping up our routine to help improve our score.” The team is eager to see how far they can push themselves before the end of the season.

The Lewis County Scoop will continue to follow the cheer squad as they perform their hearts out the rest of the season.
