I Will!
I Will
Have you ever made this declaration?
Have you ever made a promise that you didn’t keep?
I ask the question because as I contemplated writing this article, I thought of how many times people don’t follow through on the commitments that they make. Sure, we all have good intentions, but the as the quote says, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
I know things change and we, at times, get caught up in the moment but God’s Word declares in at least two different places; Matthew 5:37, “But let your ‘Yes‘ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”
And in James 5:12, “But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment.” So, it appears to me that God takes what we say pretty seriously. As people of God, the church, we are to especially held to this standard but I fear that an honest assessment is that at times there seems to be no difference from that of the world.
Brothers and sisters, God calls us to set a higher standard so that the name of Jesus be not blasphemed among those who don’t know Him. So as a reminder, I would encourage you along with the words of the Bible to let your word mean something. As my dad taught me as a young boy, “your word is your bond.” He told me that if your word doesn’t mean anything then you lose all credibility. Think about that in the days ahead. When you say, “I Will” make it count! God bless.
