Highland Band Travels to Florida for Pop-Tarts Bowl Performance

Arnolds Funeral Homes in Canton & Lewistown, Mo

Sunrise Travel Agency took a week off during Christmas and traveled with the Highland High School Marching Band to Orlando, Florida. The Marching Highlanders began their journey on Christmas night around 11 pm and headed to Florida on their coach buses around midnight. The music program is led by Nathan and Jessie Sparks, with Color Guard led by Tina Grindle (Abell).

The kids were supposed to arrive in Florida around 8 pm, but they were delayed by traffic in Atlanta (if you have ever traveled south during Christmas time, you know Atlanta is a nightmare). They finally arrived around 11:30 pm.

The following day, they woke up early to prepare for their mass band rehearsal for the Pop-Tart Bowl they would perform on December 28th at the halftime show. After the rehearsal, they headed over to Universal Studios for a quick break and some fun. They marched around Universal Studios with another band and pom group, and they sounded and looked beautiful as usual. After they were done marching, they had free time to enjoy Universal!

On Thursday, they had another major band rehearsal with all the bands that would be performing, and our Color Guard did so well that they were put in the front! Our band was also spot on, and they were in front and center as well! When they performed, they sounded amazing. This was an excellent experience for all these kids.

On Friday, everyone enjoyed a day at Universal. The kids enjoyed the shows, the rides, and the characters, such as Harry Potter, E.T., and Fast and Furious, to name a few. They also had dinner together at the Hard Rock Café. On Saturday, they packed up, loaded up, and headed to Cocoa Beach to enjoy the Atlantic Ocean. After they had lunch, they began their journey back home. Although they had some bus trouble on the way home, they finally arrived back at Highland around 1 pm on December 31st.
