Introducing the Quincy Doggy Paddlers

On March 21, the Quincy Baseball Club revealed the name and logo of its new summer collegiate team: the Quincy Doggy Paddlers.
The first video posted on social media opened with scenic views of Quincy. A narrator said, “In the heart of America, at the bend of the Mississippi River, Quincy is a city built on grit, tradition, and unwavering spirit.”
The video then shifted to historic photos. Images of Quincy Cubs programs, Gems action shots, and a boat oar marked “Battle of the Paddle 2010” appeared, featuring the old Hannibal Cavemen logo. The narrator continued, “For years, Quincy baseball has echoed through the night.”
Then came a playful transition. Footage of dogs filled the screen, and the narrator added, “But now the city waits for something new. The time has come, and something is about to be unleashed. And no, it’s not an over-excited golden retriever at the park.”
Rock music kicked in, and a series of logos appeared—“Quincy” in cursive, a dog mascot, the dog with a backwards hat, and the dog holding an oar. The narrator concluded, “The Quincy Doggy Paddlers are ready to make some waves. The leash is off. Are you ready to run with the pack?”
The final logo shows a German Shorthaired Pointer paddling a canoe down the Mississippi River, with the Quincy Memorial Bridge behind him. The dog wears a blue hat backwards and has a gem around its neck—an homage to Quincy’s nickname, the Gem City.

Inspiration Behind the Name and Logos
A second video followed, explaining the inspiration behind the team’s new identity. The team noted the Mississippi River’s role in local history, from Indigenous tribes to European settlers.
The German Shorthaired Pointer was chosen to reflect Quincy’s German heritage and strong hunting culture.
Alternate logos were also revealed. One shows the dog holding a bat and pointing, a tribute to Babe Ruth’s called shot. Another features the dog swinging a bat, inspired by the classic San Diego Padres friar logo, tying into Quincy University’s Catholic roots.
A final alternate logo, designed for batting practice gear and caps, shows a dog paw with a gem, honoring Quincy’s identity and paying tribute to the former Quincy Gems.
The team also explained their color choices, with brown tones connecting to Quincy University and the Mississippi River.
