SEASON STARTS STRONG; Lady Tigers Rally Past Knox County 38–34

Canton, MO – The Canton Lady Tigers started their season on the right foot, picking up a 38-34 win over the Knox County Lady Eagles. The Tigers showed some early-season rust as they fell behind in the first quarter, trailing 20-12. Canton settled in during the second, cutting the deficit to 25-22 at halftime.

Coach Danielle Baker said the biggest adjustment at the break was slowing things down and looking for longer possessions and quality shots. The Tigers responded, holding the Eagles to just four points in the third while Junior Chayse Uhlmeyer scored all six of Canton’s points to make it a one-point game heading into the fourth. Knox County held a 29-28 lead going into the final quarter.

The Lady Tigers rallied in the fourth, putting up 10 points and holding the Eagles to only five to complete the comeback and secure the season-opening win.

“I tell the girls, a win is a win. Either way, any way you try to get it,” Coach Baker said after the victory. “I like that they were able to come down the stretch and finally get a lead and then maintain that towards the end.”

Uhlmeyer led Canton with 16 points in the win. “Chayse puts a lot into her craft. She puts a lot into the summer,” Baker said. “People don’t just become good overnight. You gotta be proud of the work that she puts in, and that’s why she’s getting the results that she is getting.”

The Lady Tigers will head to Schuyler County next week for the Tri-Rivers Tournament. Canton holds the No. 2 seed and will take on the Schuyler County Lady Rams on December 2nd at 6:00 P.M.
