LEWIS COUNTY C-I SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES January 21st, 2026
Key notes from the most recently approved Lewis County C-1 School District Board of Education meeting on January 21, 2026:
The Board met in regular session in the Central Office Board Room with all seven members present (John Sparks attending virtually).
After briefly entering closed session under RSMo 610.021, the Board reconvened in open session, approved the agenda, and heard comments from staff and guests.
Carolyn Pridemore with MSTA presented teacher Tricia Hinton with the 2025 Unsung Hero Award, and Hinton also provided a CTA update.
Representatives from OPAA! (Sara Garner and Kayla Jensen) gave a report on school meals and snacks, and Kay Robertson described the “Create-A-Partnership” fundraising program involving the Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge.
The Board approved the consent agenda (prior minutes, next meeting date of February 18, 2026, and payment of bills), with two members abstaining on that vote.
Facility work was a major focus. The Board considered four change orders on the FEMA shelter project: a connecting corridor, gym mats/scoreboard, electrical disconnect, and playground basketball improvements.
After an initial motion to exclude change order #3 concerning the electrical disconnect failed, the Board approved all four change orders together.
They also authorized John French and Larry Post to review security camera quotes from QNS, Schmitz Electronics, and ADS and to recommend a Verkada surveillance camera system for the FEMA shelter and related areas. It was noted that new school speed limit signs are now installed and operating.
Policy work continued with adoption of revised Policy BDA and a set of MSBA 2025D policy updates (covering topics such as staff reductions, special education, admissions, student dress code, weapons, discipline, threat assessment, suicide awareness, and child abuse/neglect reporting).
The Board chose to delay action on Policy EHBD (Artificial Intelligence) for a future meeting but acknowledged related procedures.
Grant updates were reviewed, including notice that the district did not receive a Rural Grant or AASA Sourcewell Mini-Grant, and that work continues regarding an EPA grant for two electric buses.
The Board also received notice that filing has closed for the April Board election, with five candidates filing for three positions: Michael Scoggin, Donna Reid, John Sparks Jr., Jake Hedges, and Allen Brinkley.
Under new business, the Board tabled MSBA 2025E policy updates (IIA and IIAC) until February and approved the purchase of a M.U.S.I.C. cyber coverage umbrella policy at the same level of coverage previously discussed.
The Board directed Mr. French to research what other districts provide as a stipend for hotspot sponsors before making a final decision.
They also approved district funding (airfare, registration, and mileage) for students attending the National FFA Next Gen Conference and granted an overnight trip request for boys wrestling to compete at districts in Lafayette County.
