Scott was born on October 6, 1972, in Quincy, IL, to Eugene A. “Gene” Smith and Susan “Susie” Paben Smith.
Survivors include his mother, Susan Factor of Quincy, IL, significant other, Katie Runquist, his children’s mother, April (Jarvis) Ragan, children, Amanda (Michael) Scoggin of Ewing, MO, Devon Smith of Ewing, MO, grandchildren, Annaleh, Kashton, Elliott and Leah, brothers, Rusty Smith of Taylor, MO, Ronnie Cramer of Ewing, MO and numerous extended family members.
Scott was preceded in death by his father and grandmother, Jackie Paben.
Scott was self-employed for many years as a skilled carpenter; he had a true gift for building—whether it was a project for a client, something for his family, or simply working with his hands for the joy of it.
Scott was a familiar face at Tower, Kelly’s, and Gem City Pizzeria, where he enjoyed good food and even better conversation. At home, he loved Sunday brunch and making meals for his family to enjoy.
He loved telling stories and had an easygoing, fun-loving personality that drew people in. He was the kind of man who would show up without being asked, always ready to lend a hand or offer support to anyone who needed it. He treasured time outdoors, especially riding four-wheelers with friends, growing his garden and hosting Fourth of July to put on fireworks shows with his children and grandchildren.
Above all, Scott loved his grandchildren. Some of his happiest moments were spent with them. His love for them was steady, proud, and unconditional. Scott will be remembered for the countless ways he showed up for the people he loved.
Pallbearers will be Travis Cobb, Rusty Smith, Ronnie Cramer, Bruce Stoops, Brian Doellman and Jon Adams.
Memorial contributions may be made to the LaGrange Community Center.
