Avery Oetting’s Historic Night; Rockets Wildcats past Graceland

Canton, MO – (January 3, 2026) – In a remarkable achievement during her collegiate career, Senior Guard, Avery Oetting scored 40 points in a single game, tying the women’s single-game scoring record and leading the Wildcats to a commanding 106-64 victory over the Graceland Yellowjackets. This record was originally set by Meleia (Musgrove) Niemann on February 6, 1980, against Quincy College. Oetting also made nine 3-pointers, matching the record held by Mackenzie Lathrom, which was set on February 15, 2023, also against Graceland. With this performance, Avery has moved into the top 10 all-time scorers, surpassing Hall-of-Famer Carol Lynn (Connell) Mahon for the number 10 spot, and has accumulated a total of 1,290 career points.

In recognition of her outstanding scoring effort, Avery Oetting has been named the ‘Heart of America Offensive Player of the Week.’

The Lady Wildcats returned to the court after the Christmas break, starting their 2026 campaign at home with an impressive win. Four Wildcats scored in double figures, with Avery Oetting leading the team.

The Wildcats came out strong, establishing a 12-0 lead before Graceland managed to score. At the end of the first quarter, they held a 26-10 lead. The Wildcats recorded a season-high shooting percentage of 55.1%. Alongside Avery’s 40-point game, Misora Nambara contributed 15 points, Chloe Burnham added 14 off the bench, and Alyssa O’Connor chipped in with 11 points.

With this victory, the Lady Wildcats improved their overall record to 9-6 and their conference record to 3-4. They will host a rematch against the Missouri Baptist Spartans on January 7, 2026, with a scheduled tip-off at 5:30 PM. The Wildcats previously defeated the Spartans 77-65 in St. Louis on November 19, 2025.
