Canton R-V January 2026 School Board Meeting

CANTON, MO -Key notes from the most recently approved January 12, 2026 Canton R-V Board of Education meeting*

The Canton R-V School Board met in regular session at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center Conference Room with six members present and one absent. President Susan Biggerstaff called the meeting to order, and the board quickly approved the agenda as presented on a 6–0 vote.

Board members then approved the full consent agenda, which covered December fund transfers, prior meeting minutes, and the district’s attendance, lunch, transportation, and safety reports. Monthly reports from High School Principal Matt Rayl and Elementary Principal Jena Oilar were also received. Later in the meeting, the board authorized payment of the district’s bills and accepted the monthly financial report, both by 6–0 votes.

During the reports section, Superintendent Jesse Uhlmeyer noted that the three incumbent board members were the only candidates to file for the three director seats up in April 2026, meaning no school board election will be held this spring. He also reported on recent and upcoming finance and facilities work, including a December meeting with LJ Hart to review debt service and the possibility of a no-tax-increase bond issue in Spring 2027 to address capital projects. Uhlmeyer is scheduled to meet with NAVIGATE representatives on January 14 to discuss HVAC improvements and will attend an insurance consortium meeting on January 28.

Under new business, the board voted 6–0 to amend the FY26 budget to reflect a decrease in revenue tied to updated state aid (SAT) calculations.

In closed session, the board approved a request for a student to attend Canton R-V part-time until graduation. The board also took two personnel actions: members accepted the retirement of High School Principal Matt Rayl, effective June 19, 2026, and voted to extend Superintendent Jesse Uhlmeyer’s contract through the 2027–28 school year, with his salary increase tied to the teacher salary schedule increase. Each of these motions passed on a 6–0 roll call vote.

The meeting adjourned following a final 6–0 vote to close.
