BOARD OF ALDERMAN
OPEN BUSINESS MEETING
JUNE 10, 2024
The LaBelle Board of Aldermen met in open session on June 10, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Mayor Zachary Sharpe presided at the meeting. Mayor Sharpe declared that a quorum was present and called the meeting to order.
Aldermen Present: Linda Goodson, Roy Lewis, Sam Wilson, Beth Clay, Dee Raleigh and Colt Jennings
Alderman Absent: None
City Personnel Present: Wendy Lewis-City Clerk, Ottie Lewis- City Collector/Asst. City Clerk, Wayne Rudd- Sewer Superintendent, and Josh Crandall- Seasonal help
City Personell Absent: Keith Strange-Water Superintendent.
Guests: None
Others Present: None
Approval of May 13, 2024 Minutes: Alderman Linda Goodson moved to approve the May 13, 2024 Open Meeting Minutes as written. Alderman Beth Clay seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-6, Nay-0.
Approval of May 29th, 2024 Special Meeting Minutes: Alderman Roy Lewis moved to approve the May 29, 2024 Special meeting minutes as read. Alderman Linda Goodson seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-6, Nay-0.
Financial Reports: The monthly financial reports were presented and studied.
Bills for Approval: Bills for the month were presented and studied. Alderman Beth Clay moved to pay all bills. Alderman Dee Raleigh seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-6, Nay-0.
Water Usage Report: The monthly Water Usage Report was presented and studied.
Collector’s Report: The City Collector’s Report was presented and studied.
Unfinished Business:
Derelict Properties: We mowed 3 properties last month. We have a court date for Dermane LLoyd set for July 8th, as he has ignored our letters to clean up his property.
Sewer/Grant Updates: Meeting with engineer on Friday, June 21st, should have results of camera work on that day.
Water Grant Update: Going out for bids June 20th. We received our Neptune meter read box.
LSLI: Z and R Trenching has been working hard. We now need to make sure individuals complete their in-house inspections.
Sidewalks: Waiting to start surveys.
New Business:
Liquor License Approval: After discussion, Alderman Sam Wilson moved to approve the liquor license for Casey’s, Dollar General, and Hoffey’s Bar and Grill. Alderman Colt Jennings seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-6, Nay-0.
Mayor’s Report: The old water plant has an easement under it that states the city has the right to use it to obtain water from the city lake, we need a motion to eliminate this easement. After discussion, Alderman Roy Lewis moved to have our attorney draw up the appropriate paperwork to move things forward on dropping the easement in regards to the waterline to the lake, but keeping the easement for the water mains and 3 meters on the property. Alderman Dee Raleigh seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-6, Nay-0.
Mayor reported on things happening in town. We are continuing to work on sewer violations and get everyone in compliance. We have ordered pre mix and oil for the streets. Keith Tasco has taken 3 trees down because they have died.
Guys cleaned the gutters this week for the rodeo. We will be hauling the picnic tables for use at the rodeo.
The wall is going up and is almost finished. Ottie’s computer is installed and running.
Shirts have been ordered and should be in soon.
We are going to need several new flagpoles made to add to our collection for the sidewalks. Sam is going to look at cost.
On a rainy day we need to gather scrap and look into price of snow blade for backhoe.
Motion to adjourn: Alderman Beth Clay moved to adjourn the meeting and Alderman Roy Lewis seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-6, Nay-0. Meeting adjourned at 8:19p.m.
