BOARD OF ALDERMAN
OPEN BUSINESS MEETING
JULY 8, 2024
The LaBelle Board of Aldermen met in open session on July 8, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Mayor Zachary Sharpe presided at the meeting. Mayor Sharpe declared that a quorum was present and called the meeting to order.
Aldermen Present: Linda Goodson, Roy Lewis, Sam Wilson, Beth Clay, and Dee Raleigh
Alderman Absent: Colt Jennings
City Personnel Present: Wendy Lewis-City Clerk, Ottie Lewis- City Collector/Asst. City Clerk, Wayne Rudd- Sewer Superintendent, and Josh Crandall- Seasonal help
City Personell Absent – Keith Strange-Water Superintendent.
Guests: None
Others Present: None
Approval of June 10, 2024 Minutes: Alderman Sam Wilson moved to approve the June 10, 2024 Open Meeting Minutes as written. Alderman Linda Goodson seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-5, Nay-0.
Financial Reports: The monthly financial reports were presented and studied.
Bills for Approval: Bills for the month were presented and studied. Alderman Linda Goodson moved to pay all bills. Alderman Beth Clay seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-5, Nay-0.
Water Usage Report: The monthly Water Usage Report was presented and studied.
Collector’s Report: The City Collector’s Report was presented and studied.
Unfinished Business:
Derelict Properties: Dermane LLoyd cleaned up parts of his property. He was given another 30 days in court today to finish cleaning up. We need to proceed with Dean properties. All agree.
Sewer/Grant Updates: Met with engineers and MRWA. We are planning to sludge judge the lagoons and do sewer manhole inspections later this week and next week.
Water Grant Update: Bid ad has been placed in the paper and are due to us by July 30th.
LSLI- We are planning on mailing a letter to those who still need to complete their in-home inspections.
Sidewalks: Surveying has started and is being conducted now.
New Business:
Old School Concrete Arch: Scott Hoffman has donated the arch from the old school to the city. We are trying to figure out where to put it and move it to. After discussion, it was decided to move it to the park after we pour a footer for it, then we will landscape around it.
Part Time Employee Review: Josh Crandall, our part time employee has been here 30 days and is up for review to see how he is doing. After discussion, he is doing very well, Alderman Beth Clay moved to raise his pay to $15.00 an hour, which is an increase of $1.50. Alderman Linda Goodson seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-5, Nay-0.
Mayor’s Report:
Mayor reported on things happening in town. We are continuing to work on sewer violations and get everyone in compliance. Pre mix has been delivered for the streets. The wall is finished. Sam Wilson has purchased and made several new flagpoles to add to our collection for the sidewalks. He did a great job! Going to start working on streets soon. We need a new chop-saw blade. Wayne Rudd will look into purchasing one.
Motion to adjourn: Alderman Beth Clay moved to adjourn the meeting and Alderman Sam Wilson seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of Aye-5, Nay-0. Meeting adjourned at 8:19p.m.
