Highland Track Team Qualifies in Bunches for Sectionals

Glasgow, MO – The Highland Cougars delivered an impressive showing at the Class 2 District Track and Field meet and will send a large group of athletes to the Sectional round. The boys team placed fourth overall, scoring 66 points in a highly competitive field.

Sectionals are set for Saturday, May 17, at South Callaway High School in Mokane, MO.

Boys Individual Qualifiers

Hinton and Gaus racing against each other
  • Lane Hinton (Senior) – Qualified in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.26 seconds.
  • Charlie Evans (Senior) – Finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.37.
  • Porter Peters (Sophomore) – Placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.77.
  • Tyler Seals (Sophomore)– Qualified in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters for third place.
  • Christopher Gaus (Junior) – Took third place in the long jump with a distance of 6.22 meters.

Boys Relay Teams (All Qualified)

  • 4×100 Meter Relay – 4th Place, 45.47
    Runners: Charlie Evans, Christopher Gaus, Porter Peters, Lane Hinton
  • 4×200 Meter Relay – 2nd Place, 1:33.46
    Runners: Charlie Evans, Christopher Gaus, Xavier Santiago, Lane Hinton
  • 4×400 Meter Relay – 1st Place, 3:30.98
    Runners: Briscoe Post, Tyler Seals, Porter Peters, Charlie Evans

Girls Individual Qualifier – Distance Dominance

  • Chevie Sharpe (Junior) – Had a record-breaking day, qualifying in three individual events:
    • 400m Dash – 1st Place, 58.33 seconds, broke the school record previously held by Avery Johnson.
    • 800m Run – 1st Place, 2:25.75
    • 1600m Run – 1st Place, 5:28.05, broke the school record previously held by Nikki Broadfoot (1985)

Girls Relay Team

  • 4×400 Meter Relay – 4th Place, 4:21.01
    Runners: Chevie Sharpe, Hannah Ritterbusch, Ali Lundberg, Eva Logsdon
    Alternate: AJ Caudill

Girls Field Event Qualifiers

  • Bailie Crist (Junior) – Qualified in the javelin with a third-place finish at 34.93 meters.
  • Eva Logsdon (Sophomore) – Tied for fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.69 meters. However, due to injury, she will not advance in the pole vault event.

Next Up

All sectional qualifiers will compete on Saturday, May 17 at South Callaway High School in Mokane, MO, with a chance to advance to the state meet.
