Joe Murfin Obituary
Larry Joe Murfin, age 93 passed away at his home in Palmyra, Missouri on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Joe was born on May 17, 1932 in Kirksville, Missouri to Russell and Susan (Maltby) Murfin. He attended Lewistown High School in Lewistown, Missouri.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. On November 17, 1985, Joe married Carol Guinn Eberle in Knox City, Missouri.
Joe lived in Lewistown until 2001, after which he made his home in Marco Island, Florida, and Quincy, Illinois. He was a member of the Monticello Masonic Lodge #58, the Shriners and the Lewis County Memorial Post #578 American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Passius and a step-grandson, Joshua Eberle.
Joe is survived by his wife, Carol Murfin of Palmyra, Missouri; his sister, Camille Garrett of Lawrence, Kansas; two daughters, Tere Murfin (Brian Sneeden) of Winter Park, Florida, and Laurie Murfin of Quincy, Illinois; and two sons, Paul Murfin (Tracie) of Quincy, Illinois and Phillip Murfin (Michelle) of Lewistown, Missouri. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Michelle Bickhaus of Quincy, Illinois and Kelly Eberle of Scottsdale, Arizona and three step-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Samantha (Ethan) Allen of Kahoka, Missouri; Jessica (Nate) Seiler of Wentzville, Missouri; Zachary Dyer of Winter Park, Florida; Trenton (Tammy) Murfin of Quincy, Illinois; Leah Murfin (Austin Hoffman) of Quincy, Illinois; and step-grandson, Aaron Dyer. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services with Military Honors will be held in the Lewistown Cemetery at Lewistown, Missouri with Pastor Jeff Metcalf officiating.
