*Below is a summarized article of the Knox County Commission Meetings held between Dec 29th, 2025 and January 20th, 2026. The approved pdf copies of the record are at the end of this article.

EDINA, MO – In late December 2025 and throughout January 2026, the Knox County Commission focused on funding for 911 dispatch, county insurance and employee benefits, budget work for 2026, and several road and equipment issues. Commissioners approved prior meeting minutes through January 20 and routinely reviewed and signed bills and checks.

On the finance and insurance side, the commission heard multiple presentations on health, cyber, short-term, and long-term disability coverage. They approved payment for the county’s cyber insurance, chose Missouri Chamber health insurance for county coverage, and agreed to pay short-term disability premiums for hourly county employees. A long-term disability plan was also presented and will be offered as an optional, employee-paid benefit. Budget work for 2026 continued across several meetings, including partial budget reviews and follow-up items such as the sheriff’s budget and questions about the Child Support Enforcement Fund.

A major topic for the month was 911 and central dispatch funding. Commissioners met with the Knox County Ambulance District and representatives for the City of Edina to discuss the existing 911 dispatching contract and future payment options. They also consulted with legal counsel about placing a one-half cent sales tax for Central Dispatch/E911 on the April ballot, and directed counsel to prepare draft ballot language. In a separate action, the commission approved an order to end the existing one-half cent courthouse improvement sales tax.

Road and bridge work remained active. The commission heard reports on scrap tire disposal, including hauling multiple loads of old tires to Macon, and approved plans to place roll-off containers for scrap metal at the county barn. They were updated on grader repairs and heard motor grader purchase quotes from equipment vendors, including a revised proposal later in the month. Citizens raised a few road concerns, including a request for ditching on Empire Avenue and grading issues on Elm Street, as well as complaints about lights and trash at Hurdland’s Sever Lake. Commissioners also took up smaller operational matters such as chairlift repairs at the courthouse and reviewing a price increase for the Campspot reservation system, with further research planned before making a decision.
