Lewis Counties Youth Wrestlers Take Over QND Youth Tournament


One day after the Quincy Notre Dame Invitational. The private Illinois school would host another tournament. This time the Quincy Little Raiders Slam. This tournament would preview local area wrestlers from ages four through 14. The Lewis County Wrestling Club, and many other Lewis County Youth, would compete in their respected bracket. All brackets were a round robin tournament.

Kinzlen Gozalkowski

The always smiling miss Kinzlen Gozalkowski would battle in the Bantam 6U 43 weight class. Her first match would be against Emmett Derhake of the Quincy Little Raiders. Kinzlen would lose this match by technical fall, the final score being 21-5. Finally in her last match she would take on Williams Colley of the Macomb Little Bombers. Colley would take the match by fall at 0:43 in the match. However at the end of the day. Kinzlen was smiling and happy to participate.

Jaxton Jett & Randy Yates

Both Jaxton Jett and Randy Yates would compete in the Bantam 6u 46-49A bracket.

Jaxton would win his first round match against Wylder Cookson of Palmyra. Jett would win by fall at the 0:54 Mark. Randy would however fall to Champions Killian Spoonmore. This loss would come by majority 22-8 the final score.

In the second round the pair would swap opponents as Jaxton would take on Spoonmore. Jaxton would take the win by decision 9-3. Meanwhile Randy would take on Cookson of Palmyra. Cookson would win by decision of 10-9 a reversal making the one point difference.

In the Final round the two would find themselves taking each other on. Before the match I heard one of the two say “Lets have some fun!” The two wrestlers would go on the mat and roll around. But Jaxton Jett would take the win as a majority score of 15-2 would decide the match. That win would secure Jaxton Jett’s spot in 1st place in his class, and gaining 17 points for his team. As Randy would end the day in 4th place. Afterwards the two hugged it out and enjoyed the rest of the tournament.

Miss Karcyn Lay would battle in the Bantam 6U 49B Class. She would wrestle in her new singlet she won along with winning Rookie State. Only having two matches in her class. She would start by facing Ledger Guymon from Camp Point. She would take the win with a pin at the three minute mark. Then she would beat Amyla Dameron, Quincy Little Raiders, by way of pin fall at 1:18 in the bout. With that win she would secure first place and gain nine points.

Luke Bartz

Luke would enter the Bantam 6U 58A class. In the first round he would lose to Brady Worthington of Macomb by majority 15-3 score. He would get a bye in round two. In round 3 a takedown would make the 1 point difference as Wyatt Malone of Thunderbird would sneak away with the win. In the fourth round Luke would win due to medical forfeit. For the fifth round Luke would win by a 10-7 decision over Saukee’s Brock Damon. Luke’s day would end with a third place finish and 5 points.

Andrew Shumate

Shumate would represent in the Bantam 6U 66A Class. His first round match would see him win by fall over Jack Carle of Carthage at 57 seconds in the match. He would get another pin, as his second round match would see him beat Gannon Landis of Camp Point, 39 seconds in the match. Andrew would get a third round bye. Returning in the fourth round as he would win by techincal fall score 20-5 over Logan Terpstra of Saukee. His fifth round match would put his finish in second as Champion’s Tru Jones would beat Shumate by technical fall 22-6. With a second place finish, Andrew would pick up 11.5 points on the day.

Kreed Lay

Kreed Lay would get in the Bantam 6U 70A bracket. His first round match would see him fall by pin to Macomb’s Andersen Thorman in 51 seconds. In round number two he would meet Palmyra’s Cooper Nicholson as Cooper would get the win by pin at 45 seconds. Round three would see Palmyras Travis Bowers win by technical fall score, 17-2. Kreed would get a win due to medical forfeit in the fourth round. His last round would go to a decision against Champions Cayden McClelland. Cayden would win 13-6. Kreed would finish his day in fifth place and gain seven points.

Dawson Myers

Competing in the Bantam 6U 84-95A weight class. Dawson Myers would win his first round bout by sudden victory in first overtime. As a final score of 10-7 would secure him the win over Grayson Slee of Champions. In a match with Champions Weston Zanger, Myers would pick up a pin at 1:46 to win his second match. However Domonic Lyles of Macomb would win by pin over Dawson at 30 seconds. Dawson would finish his day in second place and gain 12 points.

Grayson would compete within the Intermediate 8U 79A class. In round one, Lincoln Foster of Dixon would win by fall at 21 seconds. Grayson would get a win in round three by pin over Sebastian Lawrence of Quincy Little Raiders. That pin would be gained 21 seconds in the match. Conner Huelsmann of Sparta JR Bulldogs would win by decision of 8-5 over Grayson in the fourth round. Graysons last round would see him take on Palmyra’s Elliot Britt. However Elliot would win by technical fall score of 20-3. Grayson would end his day in 4th and score 3 points.

Jyace Jett would compete in the Intermediate 8U 98-108 weight class. Round one would see him compete against Brent Hills of Champions. Brent would win by major decision as a score of 14-5 would secure the win. In the second round Jyace would fall again to major decision this time to Wyld Lamborn of Champion. For the third round Cooper Salazar of Champions would win by fall 1:10 into the match. Jyace would compete with Aidyn Brawner of Kirksville. Brawner would win by pin 37 seconds in. His last match would see Jyace fall to Weston Bemis of Camp Point by pin (0:17). Jett’s day would finish in 6th place scoring 3 points.

Competing in the Novice 10U 80 pound class. Bryce Buckwalter would start his tournament against Hannibal’s Jacob Youngwirth. Jacob would win my technical fall (18-1) over Bryce. Bryce would return in the third round to face Palmyra’s Elliot Britt. Britt would win by technical foul by score of 15-0. For round four, Buckwalter would compete against Champions Audra Blackburn. Audra would get a win by pin (0:37). Bryce’s last match would see him compete against Jaxon Worthington of Macomb. Jaxon would pick up a win by pin fall over Bryce. Bryce would end the day in 5th.

In the Novice 10U 86A class. Keith Otte would compete in three matches. In round number one. Jace Lohmeyer (Champions) would win by fall (4:24) over Keith. In the second round, Keith would fall by pin (2:59) to Alek Coronado of Quincy Little Raiders. His last match would be against Palmyra’s Kinsley Rife. Rife would win by pin 38 seconds in the match. Kieth would finish the day in fourth and score four team points

Many young Lewis County Wrestlers competed for the Palmyra Youth Wrestling Club as well. Here is how their day went.

Lucille Eisenberg

Lucille would battle in the Tot 6U 46-49B bracket. She would win her four matches. Securing first place and gaining 16 team points. Her first bout would go to a 12-9 decision victory over Saukee’s Jaxon Roach. Lucille would then win her second round by pin over Quincy’s Ryan Watson. After a third round bye she would get back to action with another pin-fall victory over Ulric McCarl of Champions. For her last match she would face Huntleigh Myers of Macomb. Taking her third pin victory to secure the first place spot.

Competing in the Intermediate 8U 69B class. Drew Wiskirchen would start his tournament in a decision loss to Camp Points Boyd Ebbing (9-7). However he would win his last two rounds by pin over Champions Henry Baze (1:19) and Hannibal’s Callen Riley (0:37). Drew would take first place and grab 18 points.

Brayden Bratten

In the Novice 10U 69-74A. Brayden Bratten would take fourth place and gain 11 points. In the first round Brayden would win by pin over teammate Ely Rose (2:11). Jase Purcell of Payson would get a win over Brayden by tech fall (17-0). Brayden would get back in the win column with a win over Hudson Vahle of QLR by pin 0:26 into the match. Brayden would however lose his last two by pin. Wyatt Smith of Payson would get the first one 2:18 in the match. Beckham Howland of Saukee would get it in the fifth round 2:04 into the match.

Roran Eisenberg

Roran would finish second after competing in the Novice 10U 86C class. He would gain 14 points. He would win two of his matches by pin fall. The first would come against Macomb’s Evan King (3:28) in the first round. The second round would see a loss to Quincy’s Teo Mamdani by pin (1:18). In the final round he would pick up his second pin over Quincy’s Quinton Crane (2:06).

Brynlea Lahr

One day after her brother Bradi would take second at the QND Invitational. Brynlea would take the mat and look to take some hardware home as well. Brynlea would compete in the Novice 10U 116 class. Her first match would see her beat Carthage’s Elliot Covert by Technical Fall (18-3). For Round 2 she would pin Champions Maverick Vaughn at 1:23 in the match. She would secure the first place finish with a pin over Skylar Weisenburger (Carthage) at 1:15 in the match. She would secure 19.5 points.

Easton Ammer

Easton Ammer would win all four of his matches by pin. Competing in the Novice 10U 154 weight class. His falls would come against Colton Boland of Limeston (2:07), Kaden Flachs of Champions (1:18), Jaxon Ufkes of Carthage (3:17), and Joseph Doellman of Quincy (0:25). This would secure Easton’s spot in first place securing 18 points.

Zoey Eisenberg & Kolten Lewis

Zoey and Kolten would compete with two other Panthers in the Senior 12U 103-110 class. In round one, Kolten would win by sudden victory in first overtime 6-3 over Brooklyn Cooley. Zoey would lose by technical fall to Ava Rife with a score of 17-2.

In round number 2 Kolten and Zoey would face one another. As Kolten would get the win by major decision, 16-4 being the final score. For the third and final round, Ava Rife would secure first with a win over Kolten by Pin. Meanwhile Brooklyn would get a win by major decision over Zoey, as 15-4 would be the final score.

Kolten would finish his day in second with 11 team points. While Zoey would finish in 4th with 4 team points.

Foreword

Overall it has been a chaotic weekend full of wrestling. As Lewis County is definitely becoming a hot bed for wrestling at the youth and high school levels. It is an exciting time for the sport of amateur wrestling as it has made an immediate impact in the area.
