Lewistown July 2026 Minutes


LEWISTOWN, Mo. — *Key notes from the Lewistown City Council meeting held on July 6, 2026.
Mayor Sharpe called the meeting to order with Aldermen Lay, O’Neal, Handy, and Childress present. Treasurer Lori Washburn, Clerk Betsy Kempe, Collector Rachel McKenzie, and Troy TenEyck were also present.
The council approved the minutes of the regular and special meetings in June as printed and distributed. The council also approved the treasurer’s report.
Collector Rachel McKenzie advised the council that some city residents have not paid their taxes for the last two years. According to the minutes, those people will be published in the paper and their properties will be included in the tax sale.
Mayor Sharpe advised the council that the city attorney is working on a stop sign ordinance. The mayor suggested the ordinance be worded so the city can place stop signs at any intersection if needed.
The council held the first and second readings by title of Bill No. 2026-2, titled “An Ordinance Approving the 2026-2027 Fiscal Year Budget of the City of Lewistown, Missouri.” After the second reading, the council voted to adopt and assign Bill No. 2026-2. The roll call vote was unanimous, with Aldermen Childress, Handy, O’Neal, and Lay voting aye.
The council also directed that nuisance letters be sent to James Cannon and Mike Clow. With no further business, the meeting adjourned.
