Lewistown City Council – July 2024 Minutes


July 1, 2024 

Mayor Sharpe Called the meeting to order with Alderman Lay, O’Neal, Geisendorfer, and Childress, Treasurer Lori Washburn, Troy TenEyck, and Clerk Betsy Kempe in attendance.

Alderman Childress moved to approve the minutes of the previous regular and special meetings in June as printed and distributed, Alderman Lay seconded, and the motion carried. 

Alderman Geisendorfer moved to approve the Treasurer’s report as printed and distribution, Alderman Childress seconded, and the motion carried. 

Sherri McCarty was present to express her concern about all the water in the alley behind her house when there is a big rainfall. She would like to see something done about this issue. 

Billie Washburn was present to talk about the letter she has typed up for the residents of Lewistown on how they can start paying their water bill online. This will be effective as of August 1st, 2024. 

Troy TenEyck advised that he would like to get bids for the lead line service. Alderman Childress made a motion go ahead and get bids and it was seconded by Alderman Lay and the motion carried. Troy also mentioned that the street tubs need fixed on Route J & H. MODOT has been contacted but they have not done anything about it thus far. 

Ditching and street repairs were discussed as they both need done. The council decided that water mitigation is top priority. 

Review of nuisance ordinance violations letters sent last month was held. A motion was made by Alderman Childress and seconded by Alderman O’Neal to have Brayden mow Edwin Ellis’s yard. The council directed that a letter needs to be sent to Anthony Cannon for mowing and weeds along ditches. 

Stray Cats around Town is an issue. Mayor Sharpe talked to the local Conservation Officer about the issue, and he advised that residents can file complaints to him. 

Board Committees were discussed and chosen as follows: 

Board President: Bill Geisendorfer 

Street: Aaron Lay & Zach O’Neal 

Water & Sewer: Nathan Childress & Bill Geisendorfer 

Building: All Alderman’s 

Co-Directors for the Ball Park: Wes Sharpe & Aaron Lay 

Treasurer: Lori Washburn 

Clerk: Betsy Kempe 

Alderman Geisendorfer made a motion to approve the committees and Alderman Lay seconded and the motion carried. 

Motion was made by Alderman Childress and seconded by Alderman Geisendorfer to have the first reading by title of Bill No. 2024-1 titled “An Ordinance Approving the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year Budget of the City of Lewistown, Missouri.” Motion carried. After the first reading by the Clerk, motion to have the second reading by title was made by Alderman Geisendorfer and seconded by Alderman Lay. Motion Carried. After the second reading, motion was made by Alderman Lay and seconded by Alderman O’Neal to adopt and assign Bill No. 2024-1. Roll Call: Childress aye, Geisendorfer aye, O’Neal aye, Lay aye. Motion carried. 

Shirley Hetzler submitted her resignation effective July 1, 2024. Alderman Geisendorfer made a motion to approve her resignation and Alderman Lay seconded and the motion carried. 

Being no further business to come before the meeting, motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Childress and seconded by Alderman Geisendorfer. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
