Mallett Wins Third Conference Title; Wildcats Compete at Heart Conference Meet
Cedar Rapids, IA — The Heart of America Athletic Conference hosted its Championship Track Meet. As Culver-Stockton’s Drew Mallett would claim the Men’s Decathlon Championship. Coming in first place with a point total of 6,070 points. Becoming a 3x Heart of America Conference Champion in the Decathlon, winning the previous two years.
Other key performances at the meet included Grad Student Logan Lucas finishing second in the 3,000-meter Steeple Chase, setting a new school record with a time of 9:18.55.
The 4×100-meter Relay team would finish in eighth place with a time of 42.66.
On the women’s side, Abigail Mooney would finish sixth in the Heptathlon with 3,265 points. Picking up three new personal best records in the meet.
Freshman Erin Peppler would finish third in the 5,000-meter race walk with a time of 29:06.99.
Senior Delany Straus would pick up three top 10 finishes: Women’s Javelin (7th), 3,000m Steeplechase (4th), and 800m (8th). Senior Malia Carmack would finish 10th in the 3,000m steeplechase.
The Women’s 4×800 meter relay team would finish fifth with a time of 9:54.04.
The Wildcats will head to Joliet, IL, next for the University of St. Francis Fighting Chance meet on May 8-9. Giving athletes a last chance to qualify for the NAIA national meet. Currently, two Wildcats are qualified, Logan Lucas in the 3,000m steeplechase, and Erin Peppler in the 5,000m Racewalk.
