Quincy Baseball: Community, Fundraising, Events, Field Manager, Prospect League, Thoughts

A press conference was held at the Town and Country Inn & Suites in regards to the Quincy Summer Baseball Team.

In Order Left to Right: James Vanterpool, Jamie Toole, Melissa Gaynor, Tim Hoker, Jeff Jarrett, Brad Gyorkos

Golden Rule Entertainment, the ownership group of the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes and now the Quincy team, layed out the plans and sight for the future. The group consisted of: Jamie Toole, President and Chief Storyteller of Golden Rule. Tim Hoker, 2000 Quincy University Graduate. WWE Hall of Famer, and Lead Entertainment Advisor; Jeff Jarrett. James Vanterpool, Real Estate agent and advisor for the group. And Culver-Stockton’s head baseball coach and now the Field Manager of the team Brad Gyorkos. Gyorkos was the field manager of the Gems in 22, and 23, and becoming the manager of Springfield last year.

Toole mentioned not just being a team with a presence in the summer. But 365. Being a huge presence in the community around the clock everyday. After the conference I asked Mr. Toole about how they’ll connect out to the whole tri-state area he states “Well I think when you create a entertainment option in value, people will come and they’re attracted to that no matter where they are. Just got to grow that foot print and we did that in Springfield and we’re certainly trying to do that here.”

First Event Announced.

Toole would have a special guest appear as Cubs radio announcer Pat Hughs would announce in a video that Quincy Baseball Club will hold a Hot Stove Social. The event will be held Tuesday February 4th at Dick Brothers Brewery.

They also showed off other events they did. In fact they announced that in the 4 years of ownership of the Horseshoes, they raised $115,000 for local charities. One event involved the local sheriff of Springfield having a bobble head of himself made and helped raise money.

Even Owner Jeff Jarrett has hinted at possibly bringing some wrestling to Quincy in the most recent episode of Schuck on a Truck with Matt Schuckman at Muddy River News.

Field Manager Brad Gyorkos

It was announced during the press conference that Culver-Stockton College head baseball coach and former Gems manager Brad Gyorkos will return at the helm. Brad shared some quick words. Mainly Brad expressed being excited to being back.

The Name

Sadly though we are no where closer to knowing a name for the team. They will be doing a name the team contest. The Gems are still on the table. Also my choice of the Quincy Atoms are. Fans can send their suggestions to quincybaseball.com. So Lewis County, get in there and make your voices heard on what you think the name should be.

Where They’ll Play

As it stands they will play the 2025 season. So they got until May to get everything ready. Coach Gyorkos said they are already working on getting a team together.

They will play the 2025 season in the Prospect League as it will fill the empty spot the Gems left behind. And they will currently fill that spot in the stadium as they will return to QU stadium. They are working on a deal with the University and the City of Quincy to make major renovations to mainly the Dugouts, the Seating, and The Lights.

Final Thoughts

I’m super excited about this. The plan has been laid out and they have a clear vision for the future while leaving it open to make adjustments if needed. This will effect the economy on Quincy and the local area positively and build lasting relationships and memories for the adults and kids in the tri-state area.

I will work hard to cover the games over the summer as the team will have Lewis County representation with Brad Gyorkos and Culver-Stockton players on the team.
