Jung Shuts Down, Bats Erupt in Home Win

Quincy, IL — The Quincy Doggy Paddlers continue their win streak at home as an 11-0 victory in seven innings over the Clinton LumberKings would set the Doggy Paddlers to a 6-0 home record and a 7-6 record on the season

Jay Jung would start things off with a two-strikeout first and send the Paddlers to the bat. Center Fielder Jackson Farlow would hit a lead-off home run to put the Paddlers ahead 1-0.

In the second, the LumberKings thought they found themselves an RBI single. But Jackson Farlow would throw it to home to catch the runner out and hold the 1-0 lead. The Paddlers would score four runs in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 5-0.

Jung would remain effective on the mound, only giving up one run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Meanwhile, the offense would score a run in the fourth on a Nick Griffith RBI fielder’s choice to give the Paddlers a 6-0 lead. In the fifth, designated hitter Brady Kindhart would hit an RBI single. Raul Ramirez would get on with a single to set up Shortstop Lane Olson for a three-run home run to center field. Followed up by left fielder Taylor Tatum with a solo homer to left field to give the Paddlers an 11-0 lead. Marc Iozzo from Miami University would come in for relief and hold the LumberKings hitless to secure the win for Quincy.

The Paddlers had yet to beat Clinton, as their previous matchups were at Clinton. Manager Kyle Fultz discussed the win:

“It’s huge. I mean, playing at home helps. Fans are great. Need to keep coming out to the ballpark to support these guys at home. You know, it’s tough to play in Clinton, Iowa. It is, it’s tough. I mean, no one’s won there yet this year. They’re really good at home, but it felt really good to get them back at our place and get them again tomorrow.”

Fultz also discussed Farlow’s 2-3 performance.

“Yeah, he’s big. I mean, we finally got him back. He was gone for a couple of days last week because of a pre-draft deal and things. And so it was really big to get him back. He started off with a bang, and then we just kept going from there.”

Followed by a discussion of Jung’s performance.

“He’s a very crafty guy. He knows what he has. That’s not gonna overpower anybody, but with the two plus off speeds that he has, it makes the fastball look like it’s 90, and he can surprise some guys. He does a really good job with it.”
