Wildcats Sweep Pirates in Conference Home Opener


Canton, Mo — The Culver-Stockton Softball team opened their home slate with a Heart Conference doubleheader against the Park University Pirates. The Wildcats came off a split against the William Penn Statesmen the day prior.

GAME 1; Explosive Offense Boost Cats to Victory

Aleki Ulu hits an RBI single in Game 1 against Park

The Wildcats would find some explosive offense in game one. The Wildcats would score six runs in the bottom of the second to gain a 6-1 lead. Then the Wildcats would add four more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 10-1. The Pirates would gain 3 runs in the 5th, cutting the lead to 10-4. However, the Wildcats would add two more runs to mercy-rule the Pirates 12-4.

GAME 2; Wildcats Beat Pirates Late for Sweep

The Wildcats would find themselves in a bind at the top of the second. Park’s Bella Rollo would hit a solo homerun to give the Pirates momentum. Faith Tessman would follow with a two-run double to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead. However, the Wildcats would find a two-out rally in the bottom of the second. Leila Lopez would hit a two-run single to tie the game up 3-3. Ryley Pecina would follow up with an RBI single to give the Wildcats the lead. Aleki Ulu would hit an RBI double to put the Wildcats up 5-3.

The Pirates would regain the lead late in the 5th inning. Bella Rollo would hit an RBI single to make it a one-run game. Jordan Crooks would find an 2 run double to give the Pirates a 6-5 lead. The Wildcats would again take the lead for the last time in the 6th, with Samantha Vetter hitting a 2-run single to give the Wildcats a 7-6 lead, and the win over the Pirates.
