Canton Softball Picks up Emotional Win Over Bowling Green


Coach Madison Covey and her Tigers continue their season picking up yet another win over the Bowling Green Bobcats. Winning the game 8-3. An emotional win for the team as the day before the Canton community would learn of the loss of Carson Birck. A 2020 graduate of Canton Highschool, Carson was an athlete in both baseball and basketball. He would sadly pass due to a work related incident.

Allie Ruffcorn, who saw Carson as a brother, would get the nod to start in the circle. Bowling Green would select Sara Reid. Both teams would keep it shut down as the first two innings saw little to no action. The Bobcats would start the offense in the 3rd as they would put up 3 runs on the board. The Tigers would record 3 errors on the day, however that wasn’t enough for the Bobcats to take advantage.

As the bottom of the 3rd the Tigers would respond with 4 runs of their own. Starting with Ruffcorn who would get a base hit and followed by Kielyn Ott. Macy Glasgow would hit a two RBI double to cut the deficit. Chayse Uhlmyer and Addelyn Baker would bring the score to 4-3 with subsequent RBI doubles.

The Tigers would return in the 5th inning as they would gather 4 two out runs. Brenna Brewer with a single RBI, Ott two run double, and Glasgow would get on base with a bases loaded walk to bring in the final run.

Allie Ruffcorn would go the complete game recording; 4 hits, 3 runs, none earned, walking 2, throwing 80 pitches 50 of them for strikes. Meanwhile she batted in the number 1 spot going 2-4 with 2 hits, 2 runs, only 1 strike out. For Ruffcorn it was an emotional win. Ruffcorn would show such strong character with her performance on the night . Canton moves to 5-2 on the season, they’ll face North Shelby on the 12th on the road.

Bowling Green’s Sara Reid would go 4.2 innings pitched, 8 hits, 8 runs, all earned, 104 pitches, 57 of them for strikes. Charlton would go 1.1 inning, 0 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, throwing 22 pitches, 9 for strikes. Bowling Green will go 0-5 on the season, they’ll head home to take on Mark Twain on the 12th.
