Four Lewis County Teams Play in One Night

Culver-Stockton Mens and Womens Basketball headed to Lamoni Iowa to take on Graceland Yellowjackets in double header action. The Lady Wildcats are still in the hunt for a playoff spot as a win would keep them alive. Highland Lady Cougars would take on the South Shelby Cardinals in the semi finals of the district tournament. Finally the #2 seeded Canton would take on Louisiana Bulldogs in the Class 2 District 5 tournament.

Culver-Stockton Lady Wildcats

The Wildcats and Yellowjackets would battle in a close game as the Wildcats were hungry to win a playoff spot. However the playoff hopes were dashed as the Yellowjackets would take the game. The wildcats would go on a 4 point run to make it 66-65 however two late shots were unable to go in for the win. The Wildcats were lead by

Culver-Stockton has one more game as they will take on Park University, Saturday the 24th at 3:00 pm. The Wildcats put up a strong season however a win against Park would tie them with Peru State and the tie breakers do not favor the Wildcats in any way.

Culver-Stockton Wildcats

The Culver-Stockton Wildcats have clinched a playoff spot after their upset victory over the Baker Wildcats. More wins would result in better seeding for the Wildcats. However they will fall to the Yellowjackets 75-66 after being outscored in the second half. The Wildcats were lead by Tai Walters-Whitaker with 20 points on the night. Seth Larson would garner up 12 rebounds on the night. meanwhile Graceland was lead by #11 Austin Braun with 18 points.

Currently the Wildcats are tied with Peru State it is unsure how the tie breakers will work for them. But if they lose they will go on the road to face CMU. They will also be on the road to take on Park University Saturday.

Class 3 District 5 Girls Tournament

#1 Palmyra Panthers vs #5 Macon Tigerettes

In a closely contested game the Palmyra Panthers would pick up the win against the Macon Tigers 49-38, as they will move onto the championship game to face the winner of the South Shelby and Highland game.

Macon’s Offense was lead by #5 Payton Weimer with 13 points. Meanwhile the Palmyra Panthers were lead by #42 Sydney Compton with 14 points and scoring 1000 career points.

However one has to wonder if Palmyra is ready. After a loss to Highland to end their regular season and this game that was closer than many had thought. I wonder if they’re ready.

#2 South Shelby vs #3 Highland Cougars

The Highland Lady Cougars season was ended however it is safe to say they didn’t go down with out a fight as they battled till the very end. A final score of 52-48 would send the Lady Cougars home from Districts.

The South Shelby Cardinals were lead by Charlie Roush with 14 points. While the Highland Cougars was lead by Rothweiler with 18 points on the night.

A valiant effort by the lady Cougars this season as we congratulate all the seniors and wish them the best of luck in their futures.

Class 2 District District 6 Girls

#2 Canton vs. #3 Louisiana Bulldogs

The Canton Lady Tigers will continue their season as they beat the Louisiana Bulldogs 61-39 as they will face off with Clopton for the Championship in Louisiana, MO. Emma Hultz lead the offence with 23 points going 8-11 in the field 6-9 beyond the arch.
