Knox County Commission Minutes – January 23, 26, 27 & 30th, 2026

On January 23, 2026, the Knox County Commission met.

The commission discussed budget items for the Prosecuting Attorney and the Child Support Enforcement Officer. 

The commission also discussed being contacted by Grayson Smith (attorney in a county lawsuit) regarding not being able to access emails sent in February 2024, and Commissioner Cardwell said he would contact Chris Gonnerman for assistance. 

The commission approved the 2026 county budget and approved ballot language to place a sales tax question for E911 dispatching on the April 2026 ballot.

On January 26, 2026, the commission discussed the possibility of adding SB3 to the April ballot, noting another meeting would be held the next day for final action. 

The commission reviewed motor grader quotes from Martin Equipment and Altorfer and approved the quote from Martin Equipment for $392,100. 

During the meeting, Tom Gibbons called about a wooden bridge smoldering on Cook Corner Avenue following a prior power line failure. 

Commissioner Greenley was to contact IMI Equipment about adding tracking devices to the road and bridge fleet, and the commission planned to contact Derek England to list two of the oldest motor graders for consignment.

On January 27, 2026, the commission held a short meeting focused on SB3 and voted to add SB3 to the April ballot.

On January 30, 2026, the commission met. 

Barry Schrage of T&B Excavating attended to discuss bridge replacement ideas. 

Chris Bird of Martin Equipment also attended to present the purchase contract for a 2026 John Deere motor grader in the amount of $392,100. 

The commission approved checks and approved a court order for the County Group Health Insurance Fund with the following amounts listed by fund: $3,923.28 (General Revenue), $2,615.52 (Road & Bridge), $1,307.76 (Law Enforcement), and $1,961.64 (Assessment). T

he commission also approved the Assessor’s Assessment Maintenance Plan for 2026 and approved the 2026 contract with NEMO RPC for $658.30.
