Tigers’ Season Ends in 3-1 Loss to Rams


Schuyler County, MO – The Canton Tigers saw their 2025 baseball season come to a close with a 3-1 loss to the Schuyler County Rams in district play. Originally scheduled for May 19, the game was pushed to May 20 due to weather delays. Canton entered the matchup with a first-round bye, while the Rams advanced after an 11-1 win over Knox County.

Senior Preston Brewer took the mound for the Tigers, battling in a pitcher’s duel against Schuyler County junior Gage Brownell. The Rams struck early in the first inning when senior Elliot Sevits led off with a double and advanced to third on the throw. After a strikeout, a passed ball allowed Sevits to cross home and give Schuyler County a 1-0 lead.

The game stayed tight as both pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts before the Rams added to their lead in the fourth. Brownell singled to center, followed by an error that put Mason Windy on base. Junior Lathan Martin then delivered a two-run double, extending the Rams’ lead to 3-0.

Canton began to rally in the sixth inning. Brewer was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a passed ball, and scored on a clutch RBI single to left field by senior Brett Ehrenreich, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Senior Bleu Taylor came on in relief to close out the game defensively for Canton, but Brownell sealed the win with an immaculate inning in the seventh—striking out the side.

Schuyler County now advances to face Scotland County in the district championship, set for Wednesday, May 21 in Schuyler County. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

The Tigers graduate four seniors—Preston Brewer, Bleu Taylor, Wyatt Anderson, and Brett Ehrenreich—each of whom made significant contributions to the program. A special nod goes to Brewer, who capped off his career with a gritty performance on the mound, and to all the seniors as they move on to new chapters beyond the diamond.
