Wildcats Split in Heart Doubleheader

The Wildcats hosted the Graceland University Yellowjackets out of Lamoni, Iowa as the cats come off a 2 game road trip since the CMU game on November 21st.

Women’s Game

The Lady Cats came off the road 1-1 as they won against William Penn 80-68 Nov 29th. The would loose in overtime against Benedictine Ravens 81-79. The Lady Cats also come in down key player Whynter Waterhouse-Brennan due to injury.

Meanwhile the Graceland team came into the game with a tough start to conference going 1-3 to start beating William Penn, then losing three straight to Missouri Valley, Grand View, and Clarke.

The game started with the Cats leading how ever Graceland didn’t make it easy for the cats as a very unconventional defense from Graceland shut down their offense. Causing the Cats to trail for three of the four quarters. As at the half they trailed 34-27.

The Cats were able to rebound as they kept the game close and finally taking the lead in the 4th quarter as they fought until the final buzzer to get the win as it was Aaliyah Ortiz getting her fourth career double double put the cats up and they made the defensive stand to end the game.

The Offense for the cats was led by Addison Newbon who’s having an amazing 85 point season to start after a season ending injury last year. While Graceland was led by Kymani Freeman with 21 points in the game.

Men’s Game

Coach Hobbs and his squad came off the road 0-2. As they would fall to William Penn 93-83, and Benedictine 68-57 as they looked to get back in the winning column. The cats came into the game undefeated in the Field House. However the Cats come in missing 3 of their starters. Meanwhile Graceland came in under 1st year head coach Todd Lorensen 7-1 overall 4-0 in conference.

The Cats did well the night however Graceland was able to take advantage of the foul trouble the Cats got in. As well hitting 11 three pointers as they worked the half with a score of 48-29. The second half the Cats cut down the deficit, however Graceland would find a way to shut down Culvers momentum to keep them down with a final score of 83-70.

The cats were led in points, assists, and rebounds by Tai Walters-Whitaker with 19 pts, 4 asst, and 8 rebounds. Meanwhile Graceland was led by Aleksa Markovic with 23 pts, and 4 asst, and Darrius Davis led with 12 rebounds on the night.

The Cats will close this years home stand as they take on Grand View Saturday the 9th at 2:00 and 4:00, and Wednesday the 13th against Clarke 5:30 and 7:30 times.
