Tigers Show Grit, Crush Eagles in Extra-Inning Rally
Edina, MO – The Canton Tigers rallied from a seventh-inning setback and then erupted for nine runs in the eighth to secure their first win of the season, topping the Knox County Eagles 13-4 on Thursday night.
Canton struck first in the second inning when Olivia Slater singled, stole her way to third, and scored on an errant throw. In the fourth, Brenna Brewer drew a walk, advanced on wild pitches, and came home on an Isabella Baker RBI single. Slater added an RBI double in the sixth, and Claire Whiston’s two-out RBI knock in the seventh stretched the Tigers’ lead to 4-0.

But Knox County had an answer. The Eagles strung together four hits in the bottom of the seventh, capped by RBI singles from MaKennah Peavler and Kalli Parrish and a run-scoring double from Myleigh Miller, rallying all the way back to tie the game at 4-4 and force extras.
That set the stage for Canton’s offensive explosion. With two outs in the eighth, Carter Arnold pushed across the go-ahead run with a single. An intentional walk to Uhlmeyer loaded the bases, and Addelyn Baker followed with a bases-clearing triple to right. Slater and Brewer each drove in two more runs, while Whiston and Isabella Baker added RBI hits as the Tigers piled up nine runs in the inning. Brewer then finished the job in the circle, striking out two to lock up the win.
Head coach Kevin Jarvis credited his team’s resilience. “I like the determination after we gave up the lead in the seventh,” Jarvis said. “We came back, put up a nine spot. I told them we hadn’t had a crooked number all year. They asked, ‘What’s a crooked number?’ I said, ‘One that’s not straight up and down.’ We got a nine to go with it, and that was awesome. They showed a lot of grit and determination.”
Jarvis also pointed to the hot bat of Uhlmeyer, who doubled three times in the game. “She’s an awesome leadoff hitter,” he said. “She can set the tone for the game each and every time. I love having her lead off.”

Uhlmeyer said the Tigers’ dugout energy fueled the eighth-inning rally. “We knew we needed to come in there in the eighth inning and really just get it started. Brenna got us going, and then everybody just followed. We went through the whole lineup, everybody was aggressive, and I thought that’s what really won us the game.”
Canton improves to 1-1 and will continue play Saturday at the Monroe City Tournament.
