A Rough Day for Lewis County Baseball
April 8, 2025 — It was a tough day for the baseball programs of Lewis County, Missouri. All three teams surrendered double-digit runs in their games. Each squad will look to regroup and move forward from what can only be described as a dark day on the diamond.
Wildcats Look to Regain Playoff Spot After Series Loss to Vikings
The Culver-Stockton Wildcats, though officially the home team, played their four-game series against Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. Hoping to earn a split, the Wildcats instead dropped three of four, with the Vikings scoring 14 runs in both games of a Tuesday doubleheader.

In Game 3, the Wildcats fell 14–4. Jeremiah Morris provided an early spark with a solo home run in the third inning, trimming the deficit to 7–1. Culver added more runs late, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.
In Game 4, Culver’s bats stayed quiet. The Vikings controlled the game from start to finish, winning 14–1. The Wildcats’ only run came on an RBI by Noble Oxford, who drove in pinch hitter Jackson Day.

Despite ending the Vikings’ 16-game win streak earlier in the series, the Wildcats drop to 7–13 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, now sitting in ninth place. Only the top eight teams qualify for the postseason. Grand View sits atop the conference at 18–2.
The Wildcats next face Clarke University, who is tied with Culver for ninth. That crucial series is set for April 12–13 in Iowa, with first pitches at 1:00 and 3:30 PM.
Panthers’ Second-Inning Surge Blows Away Cougars
The Highland Cougars remain in search of their first win of the season after a 17–0 loss to conference rival Centralia. The game ended in four innings via mercy rule.
The Panthers broke the game open with nine hits and nine runs in the second inning, jumping all over senior pitcher Johnathan Hager. The Cougars managed just one hit, coming from Casey DeClue.
Highland fields a very young roster, led by seniors Hager, Anthony Walter, and Ean Ammer, who is currently out with an injury. The Cougars travel to Clark County on Thursday, April 10, hoping to turn things around.
Tigers Fall to Unity in Mendon Despite Early Lead
The Canton Tigers crossed the Mississippi River to face the Unity Mustangs in Mendon. Canton jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first thanks to a pair of two-out walks and three hit-by-pitches.

The Mustangs responded with a big inning of their own, scoring six runs in the bottom half to seize control. Although the Tigers continued to battle, Unity held the lead for the remainder of the game.

Runs came from Oliver, Burbridge, Gottman, and Shuman, while senior Preston Brewer crossed the plate twice. The Tigers fall to 3–2 on the season and return home on Thursday, April 10, to face the Louisiana Bulldogs.
