Ehrenreich and Taylor Shine as Canton Rolls in Home Opener


The Canton Tigers’ home opener was played under chilly and windy conditions, but that didn’t stop them from delivering a dominant 15-0 victory over the Mark Twain Tigers in four innings.

Bleu Taylor started on the mound for Canton, allowing a two-strike single but quickly settling in. He recorded two strikeouts and induced a groundout to escape the inning unscathed.

Canton wasted no time taking control in the bottom of the first. Mark Twain’s starting pitcher, Nolan Epperson, began strong with a strikeout of Kaden Oliver. However, a walk followed by a two-run home run from Drew Gottman gave Canton an early 2-0 lead. Preston Brewer then worked a walk and advanced on a passed ball. Bleu Taylor followed with a line-drive RBI single to center, bringing in Brewer. Colton Baker entered as a courtesy runner for Taylor. Brett Ehrenreich kept the offense rolling with a double, moving Baker to third. Cameron O’Brien grounded out but picked up an RBI as Baker crossed the plate, extending the lead to 4-0. Jayden Shuman struck out to end the inning.

Bleu Taylor Delivers a Pitch

After a quiet second inning and the top of the third, Ehrenreich took over on the mound for Canton. The Tigers’ offense resumed its dominance in the bottom of the third as Mark Twain sent Dallas Baxter to the mound. Taylor and Ehrenreich both drew walks, and a balk moved Taylor to second. O’Brien singled to load the bases, setting up another scoring opportunity. Shuman capitalized with a two-run single, pushing the lead to 6-0. O’Brien then scored on a steal at home, making it 7-0.

Drew Logsdon struck out for the first out, but Canton continued to pile on. Oliver reached on an error, advancing Shuman to third. Ian Burbridge struck out for the second out, but Gottman came through with a two-run single. Polak entered as a courtesy runner, and Brewer followed with a single. Taylor then delivered an RBI single to bring in Polak, extending the lead to 10-0. Ehrenreich capped off the explosive inning with a two-run home run, stretching the advantage to 13-0 before a hit-by-pitch and a flyout ended the frame.

Ehrenreich returned to the mound and shut down Mark Twain once again. Canton came back to bat in the bottom of the fourth, needing only two more runs to end the game early via the run rule. Wyatt Anderson grounded out to start the inning, but back-to-back singles from Oliver and Burbridge, followed by Gottman being hit by a pitch, loaded the bases. Brewer lined out to center for the second out. Taylor then worked a bases-loaded walk to force in Oliver, making it 14-0. Ehrenreich finished his stellar game with a walk-off RBI single, scoring Burbridge to seal the 15-0 victory.

Ehrenreich had a standout performance, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, four RBIs, and a home run. Taylor was equally impressive, finishing 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs. On the mound, the duo combined for four shutout innings, each allowing just two hits. Taylor struck out four, while Ehrenreich recorded one strikeout.

With the win, Canton improves to 2-1 on the season and continues its homestand against Atlanta on April 3rd. First pitch is set for 5:00 P.M.

In junior varsity action, Canton also secured a victory, defeating Mark Twain 6-3.
