Canton Tigers Fall to the Panthers in Double Action

The Varsity Canton Tigers made their way to Palmyra Highschool to take on the Panthers in double head basketball action Friday the 1st to begin their December schedule as we near the end of 2023.

Women’s Game

The women’s squad head into the game 2-0 after a victory at Monroe City 48-44. Senior #24 Macie Fisher came into the game named the KHQA Student Athlete of the week.

The Panthers are feeling comfortable as they stay home after their season opener win over Mark Twain, 48-39, to go 1-0 on the season.

The Lady Tigers put up a valiant effort through out the night. However one of the biggest problems they ran into was the size difference. Especially against the Iowa State commit #25 Candra King as getting shots or passes around her were difficult for the Tigers. The Tigers found most of their scoring by drawing up the fouls for free throws but int the end it wasn’t enough as the Panthers took the game 48-39.

Leading Scorer for the Tigers would go to the #23 Macy Glasgow and #43 Kenna Oliver who each scored 10 points. While the Panthers top scorer would go to the #25 Candra King with 23 points

Men’s Game

In the men’s game both squads headed in undefeated as the Tiger were 3-0 and the Panthers were 1-0 both teams looked to stay perfect at the end of the night. The Tigers started out the gate early putting the Panthers in foul trouble however the panthers would regroup as the first quarter ended with a score of 14-12 Canton up. After that quarter the Panthers held down the fort as at the Half the Panthers lead 32-19 and would continue to hold the lead until the final buzzer with a score of 57-37.

#33 Carson Hicks & #32 Preston Brewer set for tip off

Top Scorer for the Tiger in the men’s game would go to the #32 Preston Brewer with 11 points. While the Panthers top scorer would go to the Freshman #11 Hudson Bock with 13 points on the night.

The Canton squads look to regroup for their game on December, 5th against Clopton High School. While the Panthers head to the 99th Annual Monroe City Varsity Tournament the Highland Cougars are also participating in. The bracket for the tournament can be found here.
