Cougars Headed to State After Strong Sectional Showing


Mokane, MO – The Highland Cougars Track and Field team is headed to state. After a strong showing at the Class 2 Sectional Meet at South Callaway High School, multiple athletes on both the boys’ and girls’ teams have punched their tickets to the Class 2 State Track and Field Championships, held May 23–24 in Jefferson City, MO.


LANE HINTON
Senior Lane Hinton placed second in the 100 meter dash, finishing with a time of 11.26 seconds to qualify for state.

CHARLIE EVANS
Fellow senior Charlie Evans earned a first-place finish in the 400 meter dash, clocking in at 52.42 seconds.


CHRISTOPHER GAUS
Junior Christopher Gaus secured a spot at state in the long jump. He landed a fourth-place finish with a jump of 6.10 meters.


BOYS RELAY TEAMS
Highland’s boys relay teams qualified in all three events:

  • 4×100 meter relay – 1st place, 44.33 seconds
    Team: Charlie Evans, Christopher Gaus, Porter Peters, Lane Hinton
  • 4×200 meter relay – 2nd place, 1:33.51
    Team: Charlie Evans, Christopher Gaus, Xavier Santiago, Lane Hinton
  • 4×400 meter relay – 4th place, 3:40.05
    Team: Briscoe Post, Tyler Seals, Porter Peters, Charlie Evans

CHEVIE SHARPE
Junior Chevie Sharpe qualified for state in three events:

  • 400 meter dash – 2nd place, 58.30 seconds
  • 800 meter run – 2nd place, 2:27.96
  • 1600 meter run – 1st place, 5:40.47

BAILIE CRIST
Junior Bailie Crist returns to state competition after placing fourth in the javelin with a throw of 34.54 meters.

GIRLS RELAY TEAM
The girls 4×400 meter relay team earned a second-place finish with a time of 4:11.30 to qualify for state.
