Highland and Canton move to Consolation in Night 3

In night 3 of the Tony Lenzini tournament we saw 4 incredible matches. The Canton Lady Tigers would battle the Van-Far Lady Indians in a consolation semi-final match. The Palmyra Panthers would go up against the Van-Far Indians. Afterwards the Palmyra Lady Panthers would duke it out with the Hannibal Lady Pirates. To end the night the Hannibal Pirates would face the Highland Cougars in a consolation match.

Canton Lady Tigers vs Van-Far Lady Indians

The Canton Lady Tigers would beat the Lady Indians 62-31 as they will move on to the consolation match. That match will be played Friday January 24th at 5:00 P.M. The Canton Tigers would apply heavy pressure throughout the game forcing the Indians to turnover the ball one too many times. Canton at the half would lead the game 32-14. The second half would see many of Canton’s players put up points off the bench.

Palmyra Panthers vs Van-Far Indians

The Palmyra Panthers would get by the Van-Far Indians 69-39 to move on to the championship match. That match will take place Saturday January 25th at 8:00 PM. We await to see who their opponent will be. The Indians will compete for third place on Saturday as well. Game slated for 6:00 tip-off.

The Panthers would find plenty of scoring out of Hudson Bock who led the offence with eighteen points. Mason Smith would follow with fourteen. Van-Far would be lead by Huff with thirteen points.

Palmyra Lady Panthers vs Hannibal Lady Pirates

Tonights events would see an interesting turn of events as the Hannibal Lady Pirates would upset the Panthers and move on to the championship match. They would take the win with a score of 60-54. Despite Palmyra’s best efforts they couldn’t find an answer for the Pirates as they will compete for third place on Saturday, 6:30 tip off. They will face the winner of the Highland Lady Cougars and Monroe City Lady Panthers on Thursday 7:30 tip-off.

The Hannibal Pirates would be led by the 1 of Stolte with twenty points. Followed by #22 Reese with twelve points. Palmyra’s Compton would lead the Panthers with 25 points. Followed by Williams with 14.

Hannibal Pirates vs Highland Cougars

The Highland Cougars would pick up a huge win and move on to compete for the Consolation title. They would beat the Pirates 55-45 as Briscoe Post would lead the team with twenty points. The team carried themselves with so much confidence as they performed well tonight. Stegeman would follow Post with fourteen points himself. Brighton Johnson would even put up some points getting ten on the night.

After the game I got a word with coach Edmonson. When asked about how big of a bounce back has it been since Christmas Break. “It’s been a huge bounce back for us. Finally our whole team is healthy and we’ve been really focusing on some fundamental things and that’s really helped us grow in the last couple of weeks.”

The Cougars will wait see who they will face between the Clark County Indians and the Brookfield Bulldogs on Thursday Night. Edmonson when asked how she felt making it to the Consolation “I feel pretty good right now.” She continues, “I feel like the boys are really focusing on the smaller steps for us to grow and as long as we keep focused and keep putting in the work during practice and really solidify our defense we’ll be all right.”
