Lewis County Schools Go Three for Four on Opening Night

January 7th would mark the opening of the Highland Tournament. As three out of the four Lewis County teams would mark victory and move on to the next round of the tournament.

Highland Lady Cougars vs Clark County Lady Indians

Highland girls would open the tournament deafeating the Clark County Lady Indians 46-29. The Cougars would dominate the court as they would pick up the victory. Great ball movement and aggresive defense. Highland will face Keokuk in the Semifinals.

Canton Tigers vs Clark County Indians

The Canton Tigers would follow it up to start the boys bracket with a victory over Clark County 56-42. A great show as 7 of cantons players would put up double digit points on the board and move on in. This will have them face Palmyra. So far Canton and Palmyra have met once before. Canton would take the loss in that match.

Canton Lady Tigers vs Kirksville Lady Tigers

The Canton Lady Tigers would beat the Kirksville Tigers 52-44. Canton would start the game trailing behind before Oliver would start finding ways to score and that would open up the rest of the team as everyone was finding ways to score. At the half they would lead Kirksville 32-26. Canton would continue and extend the lead as they would hold Kirksville off to face Palmyra in the second round.

Highland Cougars vs Kirksville Tigers

The Highland boys would close out the night losing to an aggresive Kirksville 72-34. Highland put up a good battle in the first half but the second half would get out of hand as the third quarter would see Kirksville run away with the game. They put in their bench to finish out the game and move on in the tournament. Highland will face Macon on Thursday. The winner will face Clark County for the consilation championship. While Kirksville will face Keokuk.

Keokuk and Macon

Keokuk would see victories in both brackets beating Macon at the Palmyra High School to move on in the tournament. Not much Known from these games at this time
