Highland Softball Looks to Win Districts

After beating Mark Twain 17-10. The Clark County Lady Indians returned to Highland High School face off with the Highland Cougars.

First pitch was served at 5:00. Abby Lay would start in the circle as a lead off error sent #1 McKay to first base. Lay would proceed to strike out Binsbacher, and get out with a pop out double play.

Highland bats would see Rothweiler get walked, steal up to third. Abell would line out. Bailie Crist would hit a sac fly to bring in Rothweiler to make it 1-0. Lay would pop out to send it to the 2nd inning.

Lay returned to the circle and would proceed to strike out James, Yates, and Fox in the line up. Highlands offense would roll as they would score six runs with 2 outs on the board. Rothweiler would pop fly to left and bring in Lundberg and Ritterbusch to score. Abell would single and bring in Rothweiler, and Berry would score on an error. Crist and Abell score after a Lay line drive. Winter would Fly out to end the inning Highland up 7-0.

Lay would continue her lights out performance as she strikes out the next three batters again. The Highland Cougars would continue as they go up 10-0 after Megee and Abell RBI’s.

Clark County would battle in the 4th but Lay would remain lights out not allowing a runner on base in the top. Once again Highland would return as Winter would hit a, two run, home run to left field to make it 12-0. The cougars would end their offense as Cary would score off an error.

The Cougars would end the game in the top of the 5th only giving up an error and Lay would throw a no hitter and get the win. Abby Lay would throw 51 pitches getting 8 strike outs on the night while also marking a win. Meanwhile Clark County’s Pitford and Parker would throw 2 innings each getting a total of 4 strike outs.

District Championship

They will face Monroe City at Highland on Saturday the 19th. Monroe City beat Scotland County 13-3 on Wednesday, and South Shelby 5-4 on Thursday. This will be the third meet up between the Cougars and the Panthers. Highland taking both games 15-0 and 15-1. Time start at 1:00 PM.
