Highland Offense Silent in District Title Match
The South Shelby Ladybirds claimed the Class 3 District 6 title, defeating the Highland Lady Cougars 39-19. Despite strong defense from the Cougars, their offense struggled to find momentum.
After the game, Coach Jaco said, “We got some looks, but couldn’t make anything.” Addy Abell led the Cougars with six points, while Keera Rothweiler added five.

South Shelby was led by Hannah Gaines, who scored 14 points, with most of her offense coming in the second half. Bella Cook contributed seven points to the Ladybirds’ offensive effort.
The South Shelby Ladybirds now advance to the sectional round of the tournament, where they will face Principia in St. Louis. The Panthers boast a 23-5 record and are currently ranked second in the Class 3 coaches poll. South Shelby sits at fourth in the state rankings.
The Lady Cougars conclude their season with an impressive 24-4 record, finishing ranked seventh in the state. Looking ahead to next year, they will lose only one senior, as Ellie Goehl will graduate at the end of the school year. Highland had a strong season, earning third place at both the Monroe City and Highland Tournaments, and claiming first in the Tony Lenzini Tournament.
