Highland Teals the Field against Canton
The Highland Cougars and the Canton Tigers face off twice this season as the first matchup took place at Highland on Teal the Field night. Both teams played an excellent game as the Cougars are able to beat out the Tigers 3-1.

Prior to the game it was announced the Highland Cougars Softball team had raised $1,936.00 for the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis Missouri. An organization studying for a cure to ovarian cancer. In the past 13 years the Cougars have donated a total of $26,569.00 for the organization.

For Canton, Kadee Guilfoyle would get the nod to start. While Highland would send Abby Lay. Both girls pitched excellent to start keeping it at zero. Both teams would find runners in scoring positions but got out of the jam.

Canton would get the offence going in the fourth as they would bring in courtesy runner Marissa McIntosh off a Kadence Taylor RBI single to go up 1-0. The Cougars would find theirs in the 6th. They would go up 3. Bailie Crist would score on a fielders choice from Lay. Catherine Darnell would sac fly for Lay to score. Hannah Ritterbusch would do the same to bring in courtesy runner Emma Berry for the third run. They would go to the seventh able to get the 3 outs and win their home match.

Guilfoyle would go 6 innings throwing 94 pitches. She allowed 6 hits, 3 runs all earned, 1 walk and 3 strike outs. Lay would go 7 innings throwing 96 pitches. She allowed 5 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and 6 strike outs. An amazing game that no matter the results both teams kept their heads up. Highland would end the game as an error at first base resulted in a throw out to home.

The Highland Cougars and Canton Tigers will meet once more on Monday September 23rd in Canton for the 3rd annual Londyn’s Love for Lewis County. Game starts at 5:00 PM. The money raised at the game will go to benefit Spencer Bridges. After the game both teams are ready to go again.
