Track Triumphs: Highland and Canton Shine at Jerry Ball Relays


Lewistown, MO – A cool and breezy day set the stage for Highland High School’s annual track meet, the Jerry Ball Relay. The Cougars hosted the event, which featured athletes from seven schools competing across a wide range of track and field events. Among the competitors were the Canton Tigers, who made a strong showing throughout the meet. Results from the competition are listed below.


FIELD EVENTS

Javelin

Lady Cougar junior Bailie Crist took first place in the girls’ javelin with a throw of 33.78 meters. Fellow sophomore Dani Dare placed third with a mark of 22.58 meters.

On the boys’ side, Highland senior Dennis Hedges claimed first with a personal-best throw of 38.58 meters. Junior Tyson Voth placed fourth with a mark of 31.88 meters, also a personal best. Senior Jonathan Hager took fifth at 31.39 meters, while freshman La’Male Miller landed sixth with a throw of 31.19 meters. Fellow freshman Caden Caldwell rounded out the Cougar throwers in tenth, earning a personal record at 23.98 meters.

Shot Put

Dani Dare tossed 8.15 meters to finish third for the Lady Cougars. Freshman Nataliee Wagner placed ninth with a mark of 4.93 meters.

On the boys’ side, La’Male Miller earned second with a throw of 11.71 meters. Dennis Hedges followed in third at 11.56 meters, while senior Carter Walton secured ninth place with a 9.68-meter throw.

Discus

Dare also competed in the discus, finishing fifth with a 22.38-meter throw. Freshman Clarissa Recio-Garcia landed ninth at 17.68 meters, and Nataliee Wagner rounded out the Lady Cougar trio in twelfth with a distance of 11.99 meters.

Senior Raymond Self set a personal best with a 31.5-meter throw, securing fifth for the Cougars. Carter Walton added a 10th-place finish with a distance of 26.34 meters.


Long Jump

In the girls’ long jump, Lady Cougar sophomore Hannah Ritterbusch placed third with a leap of 4.5 meters. Lady Tiger junior Sophia Slater jumped 4.17 meters to take fifth, while Highland freshman Ali Lundberg placed seventh with a mark of 4.09 meters.

For the boys, Cougar senior Christopher Gaus hit a personal best of 6.05 meters to earn first place. Canton sophomore Zachary Logsdon jumped 5.54 meters to secure fourth, followed by Highland’s Tyler Seals in fifth at 5.46 meters. Cougar senior Konner Coffman-Kenal placed ninth with a personal-best 4.72 meters. Sophomore Logan Walton jumped 4.17 meters, while Tiger sophomore Stephen Clark finished twelfth with a 3.86-meter mark.


Triple Jump

Lady Tiger Sophia Slater claimed first in the girls’ triple jump with a mark of 9.27 meters, out-jumping second place by 0.20 meters. Cougar sophomore Logan Walton landed sixth with a jump of 9.12 meters.


High Jump

Lady Cougar freshman Ali Lundberg cleared 1.35 meters to finish fifth. In the boys’ competition, Tiger Zachary Logsdon tied for first with a 1.68-meter jump. Cougar sophomore Tyler Seals matched that height to also tie for first. Canton freshman Landyn Snow placed eighth with a 1.4-meter mark, while Konner Coffman-Kenal matched that height for ninth.

Pole Vault

In the girls’ pole vault, Lady Cougar Eva Logsdon finished second with a vault of 2.44 meters. Lady Tiger freshman Jacqueline Henning placed fifth at 1.55 meters. Neither school had athletes entered in the boys’ pole vault.


TRACK EVENTS

100 Meter Dash

Cougar junior Chevie Sharpe sprinted to second place with a personal-best time of 13.18. Freshman Delilah Megee placed sixth with a 13.89, and Elizabeth Evans finished eighth in 14.46—both personal bests.

For the boys, Tiger Zachary Logsdon finished fourth with a personal-best 12.37. In a separate heat, Cougar senior Lane Hinton started strong, but Gaus surged late to take sixth overall in 12.73. Hinton followed in eighth with a time of 12.85. Tiger freshman Braxton Herron took 10th at 13.29, Cougar Konner Coffman-Kenal was 11th in 13.51, and Levi Dant ran a personal-best 13.61 to finish 12th.


200 Meter Dash

In the girls’ 200, Lady Tiger sophomore Rihanna Clay took second with a time of 26.69. Megee placed fifth for the Lady Cougars with a personal-best 29.88, while Elizabeth Evans placed seventh in 30.78.

For the boys, Cougar Xavier Santiago ran a personal best 24.90 to take fourth. Teammate Porter Peters placed sixth in 25.74, and Braxton Herron of Canton finished ninth at 26.41.


400 Meter Dash

Sharpe continued her strong meet, winning the 400 for the Lady Cougars in 59.52. Ritterbusch added a third-place finish with a 1:09.05.

In the boys’ 400, the Cougars went 1–2: Charlie Evans claimed first with a 55.14, and Peters followed in second at 56.21. Tigers Landyn Snow (1:07.70) and Stephen Clark (1:14.51, a personal best) placed 10th and 11th, respectively.


800 Meter Run

Sharpe returned to win the 800 meters with a time of 2:31.11. Lady Cougar Eva Logsdon placed third in 2:55.38.

Tyler Seals ran a personal-best 2:33.12 to take fifth for the Cougars, while Peters placed eighth with a 2:58.80.


1600 Meter Run

Logsdon set another personal best for the Lady Cougars, finishing second in 6:15.24. Freshman Alivia Jane Caudill followed in fifth at 6:37.43. For the boys, Cougar freshman Kaden Caldwell finished seventh in 6:28.02.

Caudill continued her busy day, running a personal-best 14:51.23 to place fourth for the Lady Cougars.


100/110 Meter Hurdles

Lady Tiger sophomore Raelyn Merida placed fourth in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.68. In the boys’ 110s, Cougar senior Raymond Self placed fifth with a personal-best 21.98.


300 Meter Hurdles

Ali Lundberg placed second in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 59.07. Raymond Self ran a 56.01 to finish seventh for the Cougars.


4×100 Meter Relay

The Lady Tigers placed fourth in the girls’ 4×100 relay, finishing in 1:00.92. The Cougar boys’ relay team claimed first with a time of 46.70. The Tigers followed in fourth at 53.90.


4×200 Meter Relay

Canton edged Clark County to win the girls’ 4×200 with a time of 2:08.62. In the boys’ race, the Cougars also took first, finishing in 1:37.99.


4×400 Meter Relay

The Lady Cougars wrapped up the day with a first-place time of 4:33.67. The Lady Tigers placed fourth, recording a season-best 5:55.15.


Team Scores

In the girls’ team standings, the Lady Cougars secured second place with 131 points. The Lady Tigers finished seventh, earning 51 points. On the boys’ side, the Cougars also claimed second with a total of 130 points, while the Tigers placed sixth with 26 points.
