Highland Cougars Season Ends But the Future is Bright
The Highland Cougars boys’ basketball season has come to an end. The Cougars battled the South Shelby Cardinals in the Class 3 District 6 tournament, held at Palmyra High School. Despite a strong effort, the Cougars fell to the Cardinals, 60-43.

(Early Season Game)
Seniors Lane Hinton and Kane Stegeman led the way with double-digit performances in their final game. Hinton finished with 13 points, while Stegeman added 12 of his own. The two walked off the court for the last time in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, marking the end of their high school basketball careers.
Looking ahead, the Cougars have a strong core of young talent to build upon. Sophomore Tucker Vaughn contributed eight points in the game, while fellow sophomore Briscoe Post, a season-long starter, added two. Freshman Brighton Johnson has shown promise with his strong defensive play and ability to collect rebounds. Sophomore Cason Bliven, another key starter, brings energy and determination to the court.

Connor Bartz will return as a senior next season, while Cason Bartz will be a sophomore. Both players saw significant minutes in the playoff game. Additionally, junior Christopher Gaus provides a strong physical presence for the team.
It has been a privilege to follow this team. While the season has come to an end, the memories of friendship, teamwork, and the challenges faced along the way will last a lifetime.
