LAST-MINUTE MAGIC; O’Brien’s Goal Lifts Tigers Past Quincy

Canton, MO – The Canton Tigers soccer team closed out their home schedule with a thrilling win over the Quincy Blue Devils. The last time the two teams met, the match ended in a draw, and for much of the night, it looked like history might repeat itself. But with just a minute remaining, the Tigers made one final push. A rebound off the goalkeeper landed at the feet of Cameron O’Brien, who buried the go-ahead goal to give the Tigers the victory.

The Tigers took 10 shots on goal, and 6 corner kicks. While the Blue Devils put up 7 shots, and 4 corner kicks.

O’Brien spoke about the game-winning goal, saying, “I was just in the right place at the right time. It went right into the goalie’s hands, and I was able to tap it in.”

Team captain Aiden Gaither discussed how the win could help the Tigers as they head into Districts. “Oh, definitely going to help us in Districts. Every team we play is bigger, so this will definitely prepare us for when we get to play people that are the same size as us.”

Head Coach Sarah Mueller reflected on the win in their final home game. “It’s what they work hard for all season. You know, we don’t always get to do that. So that’s what we shoot for — to end on a win. And then we go and try to get the last road win on Monday, so it’s always a positive to end on a win.”

The Canton Tigers improve to 2-13-2 and will head on the road to face Mexico on Monday, October 27th. Looking to close the regular season with another win before Districts.
