Highland Boys Districts Takes a Turn

The Class 3 District 6 boys tournament began with 3 quarter final matches which saw the #2 Monroe City Panthers take on #7 Louisiana Bulldogs. The #4 Highland Cougars take on the #5 Clark County Indians, Finally #3 South Shelby would take on the #6 Mark Twain Tigers.

Monroe City vs Louisiana

This match would start tied 2-2 as Louisiana would hit a 3 to give them a lead with 5:00 remaining. The big 42 Blake Pfanner would hit some lay ups to win the 1st quarter 16-7. The 2nd would see Monroe City continue to dominate as they hit a string of layups and take the second 25-18. However Louisiana would not go away quietly.

Louisiana would prove just that going on a 5 point run and Cooper Lumley would tie the game up with 4:00 remaining and would leave the 3rd quarter up 33-29. However Monroe City would come into the 4th taking the lead with 6:52 remaining. The two teams would go back and forth on scoring. However Monroe City would take the win 48-42 to face the winner of the South Shelby, Mark Twain game.

The Louisiana Bulldogs were lead by #15 Wyatt Martin with 20 points. Meanwhile Monroe City was lead by the #21 Toby Sapp with 12 points.

Highland Cougars vs. Clark County Indians

The Highland Cougars would start off strong. Strong scoring by Brady Campen and a strong team defensive stand would give them the lead at the first 10-8. However Clark County would take the game over. As Highland was unable to find a lot of passes and cause a bunch of turnovers. The Indians would steal a lot of passes allowing for easy drives to the net. That would end the half Clark County up 23-15

Highland would come back into the game looking to swing the momentum. However the Indians would do what they did in the first and continue to get steals and turn overs to stop all momentum. In the end the Cougars were not willing to go down as they would continue to find some scoring chances. As the 3rd would end 44-32 CC up. The 4th quarter would see Highland put up 10 while the Indians would put up 19 to take the win 63-42.

The Indians scoring was lead by #12 Corrick Hunziker with 15 points and followed closely by #4 Grayden Kleine and #33 Harrison Parker with 12 points each. While Highland was lead by Brady Campen with 16 points. The Clark County Indians will face the #1 seed Palmyra Panthers on Thursday the 22nd at 6:00 PM. I want to take this time to congratulate the Highland Seniors on their season and wish them luck in their futures. I want to thank Coach Edmondson for the stats and opportunity to cover her team.

South Shelby Cardinals vs. Mark Twain Tigers.

The Mark Twain Tigers would get an early start as they went up 4-0 to start however South Shelby would go on a 21 point run to end the first 21-4. They would continue the run to 4 more points, before the Tigers would end it and they would continue to battle it out and end their half 46-17. South Shelby would continue to dominate as they would take the win 70-38. This will send the Cardinals to face the #2 seed Monroe City the 22nd at 7:30.
