Lewis County Represents at Quincy Invitational
The Highland Cougars Wrestling Team made their way to the Gem City as they competed in the Quincy High School Invitational Tournament. We also kept our eyes on Lewis County Native Bradi Lahr who represented Quincy Notre Dame at the tournament.
Highland Wrestlers were Peyton Wright, who weighed in the 144 class, and Brodey Renier, who weighed in at 285 class. Quincy Notre Dame’s Lahr weighed in at 157.
Peyton Wright

Freshmen, Peyton Wright would wrestle in three matches through the night. His first match would see him fall to Logan Riggs (Roxana). Peyton’s second match saw him fall to Liam Kilgore (East Peoria). In his final match he would fall to Kevonte Banks (Decatur(Eisenhower)). Despite falling in all three matches. Peyton shows a lot determination and willingness to keep going. It will be exciting to see how he develops and grows over the remainder of this year and his high school career.

Bradi Lahr

Bradi Lahr continues to impress as he would win all three of his matches tonight moving on to the championship rounds on Saturday. Lahr’s first match would see him beat Mason Marlow (Pekin) by technical fall at 2:56 (17-1). His second match would see him win by fall over Markus Dunn (Cahokia(H.S.)). Lahr’s final match would see him beat Michael Young (Decatur(Eisenhower)) by fall.

Brodey Renier

Freshmen, Brodey Renier would recieve a first and second round bye. He would win his two matches in rounds three and four. His first match would see him win by fall over Conway VanFleet (Macomb). Renier’s last match would see him win again by fall over Caden Davidsmeyer (Pittsfield). He will move on to the championship rounds on Saturday.

Saturday
Payton Wright of Highland, would end the tournament in 16th in the 144 class. Renier would finish 8th in the 285. Finally Brady Lahr of Quincy Notre Dame would finish 3rd in the 157 class.
The Highland Lady Wrestlers will travel to Mexico, MO January 20th. Then the Boys and Girls wrestlers will go to Brookfield that weekend.
