*Key notes from the most recently approved Lewis County Commission meeting held on March 23, 2026:
Presiding Commissioner Wayne Murphy Jr. and Southern Commissioner Travis Fleer were present. The minutes list Northern Commissioner Craig Redmon as absent.
Road & Bridge reported the fuel bid opening and the commission accepted MFA’s bid at $3.8036 per gallon for dyed diesel under a fixed-price contract.
Road & Bridge also discussed new equipment needs and repairs, including an estimate for a 2026 CAT grader at $398,828.00 and ongoing issues with a 2005 Ford (transmission/valves) and a 2015 Ford (4-wheel drive).
The commission approved a handbook change to the Emergency call out section.
In other business, mowing bids were opened and the commission accepted Isaac Murphy’s mowing bid at $140 per week.
Meal quotes for the commissioner/clerk meeting were reviewed and Hedge City’s quote of $2,000.00 was accepted.
Deputy Sly submitted a leave balance report.
Keith Gudehus, running for State District Representative, introduced himself and discussed his values and issues.
The annex RFQ was placed in the paper to run for two weeks.
The commission received a 2026 Maintenance of Agreement for $34,301.52, discussed allowing Healthspan payments to be paid out of payroll for those with family members enrolled, and agreed to order new smoke detectors for the courthouse (one for each office).
The commission also updated and approved wall maps showing special road districts.
