The 82nd Tony Lenzini Tournament is Under Way
The 82nd Annual Tony Lenzini Basketball Tournament was started at Palmyra Gym as the top half of boys and girls brackets. The first match would see the fourth seeded Hannibal Lady Pirates take on the fifth seeded Canton Lady Tigers. The Canton Tigers looking to get some momentum. Afterwards the Van Farr Indians would take on the Hannibal Pirates. The Van Farr Lady Indians would attempt to battle with the Palmyra Lady Panthers. To end the first night the Highland Cougars would look for an upset over the one seeded Palmyra Panthers.
Hannibal Lady Pirates vs Canton Lady Tigers
The Pirates would beat the Tigers 46-45. The Tigers would trail in the game. The first would end tied 10-10. The Pirates would run it up but the Tigers stayed behind as the half would end 22-19. The third would see the last pirates double digits as they would score 17 points to make it 39-29.
The Tigers would make a run as they would outscore the Pirates 16 to 7. However they would be unable to complete the comeback. But had a good run at it. Hannibal just barley being able to escape defeat. This will allow Hannibal to move on. Meanwhile Canton will move into the Consolation bracket.
The Hannibal Pirates would be lead by Stolte with 19 points on the night. For Canton the leader would go to Oliver with 14 points to close out her night.
Van Farr Indians vs Hannibal Pirates
The Indians would beat the Hannibal Pirates 63-47. The Indians would outscore the Pirates in all but the 4th quarter of action. This will make the Indians move on to face the winner of the Palmyra and Highland. The Pirates will face the other side of that match.
Palmyra Lady Panthers vs Van Farr Lady Indians
The dominant performance from the Lady Panthers make them a force to be reckoned with as this game saw the only running clock in the entire night. The final score of 68-29 would show how dominant this team can be. Outscoring the Indians in every quarter they look to ride all the way to the championship as they will turn their sites to the Hannibal Lady Pirates.
Palmyra Panthers vs Highland Cougars
Despite falling to the Panthers 53-36. The Highland Cougars showed great confidence and strength as they put up a fight against the Panthers. Even the Palmyra crowd was unusually quiet. But the offensive Mason Smith would put up 24 points and lead the Panthers into the second round. Meanwhile the Cougars will have a tough challenge as they face off with the Hannibal Pirates.
Highlands offense would be lead by Briscoe Post with 13 points on the night. Followed up by Lane Hinton with 7. The Panthers would be lead Mason Smith with 24. He was followed by White and Bock both with 5 points.
