Lewistown January 2026 Minutes


January 5, 2026 

LEWISTOWN, MO – Mayor Sharpe called the meeting to order with Alderman Lay, O’Neal, Handy, and Childress, Treasurer Lori Washburn, Clerk Betsy Kempe, Collector Rachel McKenzie, and Troy TenEyck.

Alderman Childress made a motion to approve the minutes of the regular meeting in December as printed and distributed. Alderman Lay seconded and the motion carried. 

Alderman Lay made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s report as printed and distributed. Alderman O’Neal seconded and the motion carried. 

Collector Rachel McKenzie advised the council that she will be sending out receipts to everyone that has paid their taxes. 

Troy advised the council that if there are residents who have low water pressure, they need to call him. 

The council reviewed the updated Water/Sewer Ordinance that have the new rates for connection/meter charges. A motion was made by Alderman Childress and seconded by Alderman Handy to have the first reading by title of Bill No. 2026-1 titled “An Ordinance Amending Ordinance No. 2019-1 and 2000.5 Regulating the Use of Municipal Water of the City of Lewistown, Missouri to Change the Charge for Water Meter Installation and Amending Ordinance No. 2019-1 and 2004.2 Establishing a Sewer Hookup Fee for All Persons Connecting to the Municipal Sewer System of the City of Lewistown, Missouri to Change the Connection Fee for Connection to the City of Lewistown Sanitary Sewer System.”

Motion carried. After the first reading by the Clerk, a motion to have the second reading by title was made by Alderman O’Neal and seconded by Alderman Lay. Motion Carried.

After the second reading, a motion was made by Alderman Childress and seconded by Alderman Handy to adopt and assign Bill No 2026-1.

Roll Call: Childress aye, Handy aye, O’Neal aye, Lay aye. Motion carried. 

The council directed the Clerk to run another ad in the paper for bids to tear down the shelter house. The concrete will be staying, only the structure will be tore down. 

Being no further business come before the meeting, motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Childress and seconded by Alderman Handy. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
